Homelessness

Everybody deserves a place to call home.

From shelters and safe havens to supported independent living and nationally renowned case management services, Resources for Human Development helps people of all abilities pursue their dreams of permanent shelter.

The Woodstock Family Center offers emergency shelter for mothers with minor children where a family shelter support team (FaSST/Connections) directs them to other appropriate community services and agencies. RHD’s Womanspace programs support women with not only chronic homelessness issues but also addictions and mental illnesses, offering individual and group therapy with the aim of reintegration into the community.

Backpacks to Help the Homeless

June 24, 2021

Alexa Rhodes, an enterprising Abington teenager, donated backpacks full of essentials to RHD Fernwood and RHD Woodstock to help people experiencing homelessness. When reflecting on why she began this selfless pursuit, Alexa shared, “I have been so fortunate to have a roof over my head, to have food on the table, and to have the necessary items to live comfortably. Those experiencing homelessness do not share that same privilege. I feel as if it is my duty to give back to those who are less fortunate than I am.” Woodstock Family Center provides emergency shelter to homeless families and/or single parents and their children, while Fernwood provides emergency housing to single men in Philadelphia and assistance to those experiencing homelessness.
