On December 9th, Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Wolf, spoke at a press event, alongside Family Practice & Counseling Network (FPCN) leadership and other state representatives, to announce the open enrollment period at Pennie.com, a free service that connects PA residents to high-quality health coverage, at their Health Annex location. A Resources for Human Development (RHD) program, FPCN hosted this press conference to share that open enrollment opened on November 1st, 2021, and will extend to January 15th, 2022. Pennie.com, aims to provide health insurance to Pennsylvania residents – an initiative that stemmed from the Obama administration to ensure every American has equal access to healthcare – has provided coverage to over 340k Pennsylvanians, with the goal to provide thousands more in 2022.

Governor Wolf explained, “Pennie is the one-stop shop for Pennsylvanians’ health care needs,” Gov. Wolf said. “With Pennie, Pennsylvanians have access to a variety of resources to help them understand how to apply, shop, and enroll in health coverage including access to people who can help them right in their community. Pennie also provides financial assistance for those who qualify, which means health care coverage is more affordable for Pennsylvanians. Now, more Pennsylvanians can access the care they deserve, ultimately giving more people the opportunity to live healthier lives.”

Joining Governor Wolf, Minority Leader of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Joanna McClinton, explained that we “we are living in a tragic age” and with the outbreak of COVID-19 and severe health disparities, ensuring the underserved population is more critical than ever. Another PA state representative, Senator Art Hayward, spoke to how his involvement began under Obama’s administration and initiative to get every US citizen covered. He went on to state, “Healthcare is freedom – it’s freedom to live a longer life; it’s freedom to live a more independent life. Don’t wait to get sick to seek coverage – get it now.”

Open enrollment at Pennie.com is now through January 15th, 2022. Those interested in learning more can visit: https://pennie.com or https://www.insurance.pa.gov/Pages/default.aspx.
