Philadelphia city councilwoman Donna Reed-Miller is hosting a holiday toy drive with a unique twist – local motorcycle clubs from around the area will take on the role of Santa’s elves, transporting sacks of toys collected in various drives to a local nonprofit for distribution to a number of children’s programs.

Motorcycle clubs from all around the country will converge on Philadelphia Sunday Dec. 4 to drop off toys for needy kids. The local portion of Reed-Miller’s holiday toy drive will begin at 8 am Sunday Dec. 4 at Crossroad Power Sports in Upper Darby. Resources for Human Development will welcome motorcycle clubs carrying toys at noon.

Miller said: “This is an excellent way to help less fortunate children throughout the City of Philadelphia experience the joy of Christmas, and for local motorcycle clubs to play an active role in the development of one of our city’s most valuable resources – our children.”

Reed-Miller will get some help from a number of special guests, including:

Congressman Bob Brady (D-PA) will kick off the day in Upper Darby.

Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter and Councilman Darrell Clarke will be on hand to welcome the toys to RHD.

The event is open to the public, and will accept donations of toys at RHD at noon Dec. 4. RHD is a national human services nonprofit with corporate headquarters in Philadelphia that supports a number of children’s programs in the Philadelphia area. The toys will be distributed to RHD’s many children’s programs, serving area youth with behavioral or mental health challenges, as well as those in homeless shelters or other emergency services.

“This wonderful effort from so many people will help ensure that children in need have a happy holiday season,” RHD CEO Bob Fishman said. “We can’t thank Councilwoman Reed-Miller, Mayor Nutter, Councilman Clarke and Congressman Brady enough for their efforts.”
